How to invest in real estate overseas?

Land is expensive here. We all know that.

So to invest in real estate overseas for renting out, or to buy and sell, is a good option.

However, what does this entail? Are foreigners allowed to buy real estate overseas? Or do we start a company here or abroad and use it to acquire the properties?

Foreigners are allow to buy real estate in places like China. However for developing countries like Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam foreign ownership is still illegal. There are ways to overcome them however.

Be careful not to be trapped. Many people had loss their investment when the Indonesian government change their policy in the early 90s. I do not really trust some countries even though the investment is lower or returns is good.
