Walking around the departmental stores, i always wonder where did the toys that they have on display come from. Like, who is the supplier, and who imported them in. Consumers only see the retail side of the business, the metro, robinsons, but not the back end. Does anyone know who is the major toy supplier/importer in Singapore?

I think these supplies are actually imported by that particular departmental stores. I'd say, stuff like Barbie Dolls would be from Mattel in the US, which produces them. Ain't sure about that though, you've gotta check that out

Have you heard of Tai Sing? They brought in the stuff like Bey Blade and some of the other kids anime you see on TV.
They are the importers. But where they got the deals to import them here, have no ideas. Maybe you can give them a call, but doubt think they will tell.

Here is a link to Tai Sing
http://www.taising.com
I've been to their showroom/warehouse. Shelves and shelves of toys.
I don't know where they are getting their supplies from. But they are sure making money, there are many retailers selling their goods.

you can start your own trading company. bring in toys and put in your own brand. There are many suppliers websites. Or if you are most comfortable visit those big exhibition fairs in HK, China, Malaysia or Thailand.

Put your own brand on the toys? You mean say " supplied by MY CO." or "made by MY CO."/"MY CO." as the brand of the toy?"

Most toys are made in China. I believe they have such business fairs there too.

Most importers/trading company design or identify a sellable & appealing product and then source for a factory to produce. As time goes by, the range of products/toys increases.
Mattel products are produced in China. Nike shoes are produced in China/Thailand. Many products are produced in China, Thailand, Indonesia.... countries where labour cost is low.
I know for sure when I was shopping in Australia, the shoes and clothings I saw for sale are mostly made in China. Just that the brand and design is Australian.
For toys, I am pretty sure their don't have their own factory (i.e. if we are talking about Singapore companies), although they most likely appoint 1 or 2 long-term-relationship factory to start with.

Any examples of Toy companies in Singapore?
I walk through Toys R Us and I see that most of the toy brands are from somewhere else. Where did "made in Singapore" go?
Although if there is a toy company in Singapore, I agree they would not have a factory here but instead a relationship with a factory most probably in China.

If i am correct, the amount of capital required to hire a Singaporean worker can be used to hire 2 or 3 foreign workers. And they are hardworking too. So naturally, companies would hire foreign workers more than singaporean workers, besides, the land in Singapore is so highly priced as compared to countries like Malaysia and China. They have loads and loads of free empty land, so much that the government cannot keep watch over all of it.

Most toys are manufacture in China. If you ask me where, they are mostly concentrated in Shantou, one of the ancestor home of our Teochews.
Shantou is located in Guangdong Province in China.

Branded ones do have license and distribution rights like from Loony toons and Barbie dolls. Non-branded mainly comes from China of which many importers brought in.
